Mankind uses too many fossil fuels in order to satisfy its energy needs, even though the technologies which we need for the transition to a green, zero emissions society are already available. The idea behing BIKE IT ON is to generate enough electricity to power e.g. a concert, a movie show or a karaoke party by biking (e-bike)!
The primary goal is to raise awareness on the need for us all to change lifestyle in such a way that our energy needs can be met without harming the planet.
After a highly productive “Pimp My Venture” at HUB in March 2011, the BIKE IT ON idea was realised by IndyACT with the support of three fresh graduates from HTL Rennweg.
The first BIKE IT ON event took place on September 17 in Greifenstein in Lower Austria, where the electricity generated by six bikes was used to power the concert of the funk band “the Cosmophoncs”. Since then, four more events have taken place, three of which concerts.
In new year IndyACT in cooperation with Danube International School Vienna and the Austrian Institute for Sustainable Development (OIN) will provide BIKE IT ON for workshops in schools with the goal of illustrating how much (or how little) electricity can be generated with manpower. Together with the Danube Happiness Project, IndyACT will embark on a ZERO Carbon Bicycle Tour from Passau via Linz, Vienna, Bratislava down to Budapest. The tour will spread over two weeks, BIKE IT ON will come along and power a concert in each of the aforementioned towns. In addition, IndyACT will further evaluate possibilities of using the concept of “bike power” for humanitarian purposes.
