In Austria, a highly developed and wealthy country, over 300.000 households are so severely indebted that they live in poverty. Every 5th indebted Austrian is under 25 years old – with an average of 30.000 Euros of debt.
Game Changing develops innovative ways of providing young people with Financial Literacy – the skills they need in order to handle money responsibly and lead a self-determined life free from debt. On a second level, the initiative connects grassroots financial literacy projects with top-level players of the financial field.
This year, in October 2011, our team won the innovation award “Ideen gegen Armut”, which provided Game Changing with 40.000 Euros of start-up capital.
We are currently building our network base of Austrian banks, credit associations, debt councelling services, and other stakeholders. At the beginning of 2012 we plan to have a secure budget for the upcoming two years.
By mid 2012, we want to have launched our first social media game for financial literacy and in the course of the year, we will build a financial literacy knowledge base, in order to become a hub of financial literacy education in CEE. We know that we are aiming high, but we are also committed to make it all happen! 🙂
