Michael from Gebrüder Stitch on Vienna Fashion Camp

What is happening this weekend at the Vienna Fashion Camp?

It’s an event, taking place for the third time, organized by Austrian Fashion Bloggers. There are discussions & workshops concerning the future of fashion, upcoming trends, relevant industry problems and so on.

It’s an interesting crowd, discussing some from my point of view completely irrelevant topics, but also some very exciting ones like sustainability in the fashion industry.

How did you end up there?

For Gebrüder Stitch 3 topics are really important: a) offering high quality mass customized denim products to our customers b) economical growth and impact aka bathing in gold like Dagobert 😉 c) saving resources and reducing negative ecological and social impact of our own production and the whole bloody fashion industry.

The organizers invited us to talk about sustainability in fashion. I assume they want us to do this, because they saw our efforts in this field…

What’s your favorite part of your job?

Designing cool quality products and services for our customers and seeing their faces when they experience these plus doing cool unadapted shit which is annoying, irritating and hopefully inspiring people all at once.

Tell us what role fashion is playing in society and where it’s heading.

For sure there are some really scientific opinions, mine is more emotional… It’s a cool but superficial business, all about looking good and having the perfect ass.

Fashion is all about what people want to be, not what they are. It’s about images and people’s dreams. That’s also what it’s gonna be in the future, but for sure with more authentic and valuable products, more individualization where people can choose from a broader range of images and brands, local production and more sustainability. We are trying to somehow to work as a pioneer on that.

What inspires you?

Positive characters, very often not global celebrities, but people in my surrounding that have stories and meaningful visions plus (as the hermanos stitchos say) some “cochones” to make these ideas happen.

Sometimes, I mean sometimes and not that often, my brother mo is one of these guys ,-)

What would you have answered a year ago?

2 years ago I am sure I would have answered something completely different

Some additional words of wisdom..

Consume less (clothes) and drink more eggnogg!
