Dream, Believe and ACT

Hello HUB friends,

this week we talked to Alexis Eremia, founder of HUB Vienna’s Accelerator Program and members Andrea Lunzer and Sandra Kozeschnik about the intention and the impact of the Accelerator Program. Enjoy!

“At the HUB Vienna, we take an active role in developing the ecosystem for social entrepreneurs, through our work and the work of our partners and members. They are always looking for new opportunities and ways to create new or increase the efficiency of old structures. The aim is to help our society benefit from the enthusiasm, innovation and efficiency of bottom up solutions created by citizens that dream, believe and ACT for a better, more inclusive, more just future.

In 2011 we conducted a study on 104 social entrepreneurs and 22 experts from the HUB Network mapping some of the most relevant profiles and needs. Based on the results of the survey we have designed a program of workshops, labs, consulting and meetings with investors to support social entrepreneurs to accelerate and scale their social ventures. The program has individual units spread over the next 6 months, engaging diverse partners in the delivery of the program.

We created a program that would cater to the needs of the social entrepreneurs in Austria, especially to those who decide to become part of the HUB network. We built a program that would reflect the principles of our space: collaboration, openness, sharing and mutual support. We also capitalize on the diverse network of supporters and collaborators in the field and offer our members a “menu”-like program from which they can take what they need most.

One aspect we took into account is that we are dealing with a heterogeneous group – in terms of stage of their enterprise, educational background, time availability. Based on this we designed a program which could potentially serve all, and give them just what they need, without having to waste time in sessions that do not interest them. We understand the high level of activity that a start-up requires and we aim to create something that is not putting too much time pressure on the entrepreneurs… we reduced it to the basics of what is needed at a certain point in time.

Two of the HUB members who benefited immensely from the Accelerator Program are Andrea Lunzer and Sandra Kozeschnik, who got to know each other in one of the Accelerator workshops in June 2012. Hailing from completely different fields but united through their enthusiasm about packaging, design and sustainability, they are the perfect match between extensive eco-know-how and management skills. Currently they are finalizing their business model which aims to create awareness among consumers on matters of packaging and the environment, and to work with companies to jointly develop sustainable packaging for the future. Within the next few weeks they will officially start doing business and launch their venture UNFOLD.”
